January Favourites

I’ve never done one of these before. I actually really enjoying reading and watching monthly favourites on Youtube, and my blog is an extension of me and all the things I love, so it makes sense to do one!

The Happiness Planner

Buy it here – £48 – The Happiness Planner

I know you’re supposed to save the best ’til last, but I couldn’t wait to tell everybody to purchase this! I stumbled across the company in 2015 and was intrigued but never got around to purchasing one. To my complete surprise, I won the brand new black and gold Peony planner and I can’t live without it now. The packaging is beautiful and it’s a great way to force yourself into thinking positively wherever you can. I’m going to do a blog post on this in April, once I’ve been filling it in for a couple of months so stay tuned!

Lee Stafford Chopstick Styler

Buy it here – £15.99 – Very*

Most of my relatives have thick, dark curly hair that I’ve been jealous of for as long as I can remember. Mine is thick but it’s always been a little bit lifeless, with a natural kink, a ghastly cowlick and a double crown. Hair isn’t a speciality of mine; I’m far too impatient and I just can’t get my head around doing things without looking, but this styler is SO. SIMPLE to use. It seems like it’s going to take a lifetime to get through the hair, as you have to work in really small sections, but in my experience it takes longer to straighten! Also, I feel like an 80’s girl group member when I wear the style.

#Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso

Buy it here – £6.99 – Amazon

I got this book for Christmas from a friend who assured me that it was life-changing. The OG Nasty Gal, Sophia Amoruso is a force to be reckoned with. She is living proof that in order to succeed you do not need a degree, or a family with a very large bank account, AND you don’t need to know exactly what it is you want to do. You’ve just got to find something you love and refuse to give up on it.

Anti-Depressants

(Can’t give you a link for these, soz)

There’s a huge stigma surrounding using medication to treat mental illness and, honestly, I don’t know why. I had a really, really bad relapse at the end of last year and without the tablets I take, I don’t know where I’d be right now. Of course, treatment and chemistry are completely unique to every one of us, what works for me, may not work for you. Don’t turn your nose up though – for the first time in a while I can get out of bed and I actually eat at least one meal a day – both simple tasks that seemed impossible at Christmas time.

Facebook groups

One of my favourites this month is Online Business BFFs (if you decide to join, be sure to let me know!)

I’m now a full time freelancer, which means I’ve had to get serious about the way I do my thing. I’ve spent every waking hour reading guides about being successful and making enough money to cover bills, I’ve downloaded ebook upon ebook promising to teach me the best kept secrets in the trade. While lots of these resources have been helpful to an extent, I’ve found a couple of large Facebook groups full of creative business owners who are literally there to bounce ideas around and ask questions. In my opinion, nothing is more valuable than the experience of people who are in the same game, and I’ve already learnt tonnes – it’s just about putting it into practice now!

Benefit Precisely, My Brow & Ka-BROW

Buy Precisely, My Brow here – Boots – £18.50*
Buy Ka-BROW here – Boots – £18.50*

I’ve never had great eyebrows, and I’ve tried a lot of different products to no avail. A few months ago I went out and splurged on some Benefit goodies with a voucher I had and I have never looked back. While they aren’t professional standard, and I’m not going to win any awards with the shape or technique I have, I’m very pleased that I’ve finally found a duo I can use successfully!
